About This Devotion: Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to St. Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City in 1531, leaving her miraculous image on his tilma (cloak). In her apparition, she offered these comforting words: “Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything.” This beloved image has become one of the most recognized Marian apparitions worldwide, drawing millions of pilgrims annually to her basilica in Mexico City.
