About the Saint:
St. Clare was a noblewoman who abandoned wealth to follow St. Francis of Assisi’s radical call to Gospel poverty. As founder of the Poor Clares, she led her sisters in a life of contemplative prayer, extreme poverty, and joyful simplicity. Her profound devotion to the Eucharist was most famously displayed when she repelled invaders by holding up the Blessed Sacrament at her convent gates. For 40 years, Clare guided her order with wisdom and grace, writing their Rule—the first monastic rule written by a woman. Her life inspires trust in God’s providence and demonstrates the transformative power of prayer and simplicity.
