Melissa Dayton Art
I began painting in 1996—creating children’s portraits and murals that allowed me to stay home with my growing family. Art was never a side pursuit; it was how I lived into the vocation of motherhood, bringing beauty and storytelling into everyday spaces. At the same time, I began designing covers for Catholic Bible studies, sparking a lifelong exploration of how art invites us into God’s presence. I'm a mother of eight—our oldest is a Catholic priest—and a grandmother of five. Over the last three decades, I’ve served women through parish-based ministry, spiritual accompaniment, and grief work. I hold a Master’s in Church and Ministry, and much of my life has been dedicated to walking with women in seasons of loss, healing, and rediscovery. My work in ministry has always centered on beauty, dignity, and the truth that God meets us in the ordinary. My piece Escort to God was featured in a yearlong national tour with the Foundation for Sacred Arts, and my work has appeared on the cover of Catholic Bible studies, in the National Catholic Register, and on The Choices We Face with Ralph Martin. My husband and I also co-founded a nonprofit with our oldest daughter in response to a tragic suicide cluster in our community, speaking nationally with presentations that brought hope and faith into hard conversations. That work remained active for six years, until the pandemic led us to a new season. Today, I am a full-time artist. My collections range from sacred imagery to coastal wallpapers, woven fabrics, and fine art for the home. Whether I’m painting the sea or the saints, my work is rooted in memory, faith, and the belief that beauty draws us closer to God.
